The missing middle in The GTA
"Missing Middle" refers to a range of multi-unit or clustered housing types that fall between single-family homes and larger, often high-rise, apartment buildings. These housing types are considered "missing" because, in many urban areas, there has been a historical focus on either single-family houses or high-density developments, with a lack of diverse housing options in between.
In the GTA, as in many other cities, there has been a growing interest in addressing the "missing middle" housing challenge to provide more diverse and affordable housing options. This includes housing types such as duplexes, triplexes, townhouses, and other forms of medium-density development. The aim is to create more varied and flexible housing choices that can accommodate the needs of different demographics, including families, young professionals, and seniors.
